Having hobbies is incredibly important in life. Not just for the sheer enjoyment of them, hobbies help you to unwind, improve your confidence and make you more interesting too. They help you maintain a good work/ life balance, and give you a much-needed break from the stresses of adulthood. And when it comes to hobbies, blogging is one of the best! It’s free to start, and you don’t need any special equipment- just your laptop and a bit of creativity. Here are just a few of the reasons blogging makes such an awesome hobby, and why it’s well worth taking up.
You Can Be Creative
Blogging gives you a platform to express your creativity. If you work in a not-so-creative job, this may be a side that you haven’t unleashed for a while. But once you get into the swing of it, you will thoroughly impress yourself. It allows you to write, unfiltered about any topic you choose. You can explore the topics and the things you love and have a place to express them. Writing is definitely cathartic and can work as an amazing stress-buster. As well as writing, blogging also encourages you to improve your design skills. Rather than paying a website designer, have a go at knocking up a header and some graphics using Photoshop or even a free program online such as Picmonkey. Play around with your layout and the look of your blog, there are tons of coding tutorials you can find online which are easy to follow even if you’re a complete beginner.
You Learn New Things
Following on from the last point, you can learn a huge amount when it comes to blogging. As well as honing your writing skills, graphic design and coding you also learn about social media networking. You’ll improve your photography skills when you’re taking blog photos. You’ll learn how to promote your content, how to use different tools and techniques across the web. And by doing research for your blog posts, you will gain a wider understanding of the topics you love. It’s so much more than just writing opinions onto a web page. Sites like The Blogging Tips give more information about the kinds of things you can learn.
You Meet New People
When you set up a blog, you also set up social media accounts that are linked to it. This not only allows you to promote your content but opens up the door to meet other bloggers too. There’s a huge community of bloggers in different niches, and by writing a blog allows you to connect with them. There are people who have found their very best friends through this platform, and so meeting a range of like-minded people is a definite perk.
It Can Lead To Incredible Opportunities
Blogging has allowed a vast number of people to be able to call their hobby their career. Sponsored posts, advertising opportunities, affiliate marketing and other forms of collaboration with brands mean bloggers are able to earn a good wage working from home through their blog. It can take a long time to build up to this, and so if you’re in it solely for the money, they expect to fail. You do have to have the love, passion, and motivation there to work on your blog for a long time before opportunities come your way. But it’s worth knowing that if your blog does do well, it could potentially lead to great things in the future.
