For me, blogging is more than just a passion; it’s a way of life. I can’t imagine the world where I don’t wake up and think about my blog. I know this is the same for bloggers all over the world. People pour their heart and soul into a blog and love it when their efforts get recognized.
However, there are times when you try very hard to produce great content and still don’t get noticed. What you need to do is find ways to stand out from the crowd. Leap free from everyone else and make your blog more unique.
So, I decided to write a post that will help you make your blog stand out from the others out there. Check out these three tips for more info:
Include Images In Every PostA wise person once said a picture is worth a thousand words. People love images of every kind, as they’re easy to engage with. I know most people would rather look at some pictures than read massive paragraphs full of writing. What you need to do is add images to every post you create. Now, I’m not saying you should do away with text completely. That would be stupid; it defeats the purpose of a blog. If you want to do that, get on Tumblr or Instagram instead.
Like I said, images can help people engage with something more effectively. It will brighten up every post, and distract attention away from the text. Look at this post as an example of what I’m talking about. If I had no images, you’d all see a massive page full of writing. It would put you off, as it looks like too much effort to read. But, there are images here and there breaking up the text. It makes the whole article seem more manageable to read. Plus, you get the enjoyment of seeing a few cool photos too.
The images you post have to be available for reuse. This means you’re looking for pictures with the correct licensing, so, you don’t have to pay for them. The pictures I got are all from various sites with the correct licensing. To make things more personal, you can take photos yourself and upload them. This is a fantastic idea if you’re writing a blog on something you did. It shows people what you did, and makes the blog even better.
Another great idea is to spice up your pictures and make them look more appealing. To do this, you can use image editing software. Think about taking some Adobe Photoshop classes, and you can create original images that look amazing. Here’s an extra tip for you; publish them and label them for reuse. This means people can use them for their blog posts, and have to credit the source. So, every time a picture gets used they have to link it back to your blog. A sneaky way of increasing your traffic!
Think Of The Theme & FormatWhat’s one thing you notice about all the best blogs out there? They all look great and are very easy on the eye. Looks are everything when it comes to creating a blog and making it stand out. There are so many generic themes out there; it’s easy to get lost amongst a sea of similar blogs.
My advice is to try and find a theme that suits your blog. If possible, choose one that allows complete customization of colors, fonts, etc. This way, you can try your best to make a generic theme your own, and stand out. Of course, if you have the talent, you might be able to come up with a new theme all by yourself. Or, if you fancy investing a little money in your blog, pay someone to create a unique theme. Personally, I think this is a good idea if your aim is to make money from it.
For me, the main thing to look for in a theme is the way everything is formatted. Look at the way headings and titles are presented in the theme. Also, think about menu bars, where the name of your blog is positioned, all that jazz. Formatting is important as it makes your blog easier for people to use.
The worst thing you can do is have a blog without a theme. I’ve been on some sites where everything just looks a complete mess. I was on one blog, and it looked like the owner was stuck in the early 2000’s era of web design. It looks outdated, and a modern theme just wasn’t there. Make your blog stand out, give it a good theme with a good format.
Make Good Use Of WidgetsWidgets truly are a blogger's best friend. If you don’t know what they are, then you’re missing out. Widgets are cool things you can add to your blog to make it stand out. They’re also highly practical and make your blog easier to use while offering more to your readers.
There are so many different widgets you can download and install on your blog. If you have a look on my site, you’ll see I have an Etsy widget on the right-hand side of the homepage. What this does is show my audience some of the products I’m selling on Etsy. If they like what they see, they can click it and get taken to the page on Etsy. You can get social media widgets that show live feeds from your Twitter/Facebook/Instagram account. This is a great way to stay connected with your audience and encourage interaction.
Then, you have other widgets that just make your site more professional. Some blogs have a weather widget to show people what the weather’s like in their location. It’s a smart touch and adds something extra to your site.
Widgets are fantastic as they turn your blog into something much better than it was before. Your audience can get more enjoyment out of visiting your site. Some bloggers like to have widgets that display a thoughtful quote or joke each day. Again, this just gives your blog more substance and helps it stand out from the crowd.
Apply these tips to your blog and watch the changes take place. Not only will you have a larger audience, but you'll also have more fun creating content too.
